Make one small decisionĀ about 'your' good life space

When your home is also a workplace for support workers, it can quietly stop feeling like yours - rosters on the fridge, equipment in the corner, other people's rhythms in your space.

This habit is about doing one small thing that says: this is still my home.

Why This Matters

A home or space that belongs to you is one of the foundations of a good life. For disabled people whose homes have been partially taken over by the support system - and for family members who have watched that happen, the sense of ownership can fade without anyone meaning it to.

How to do it

1.Ā Ā Pick something small and visible

Not a renovation, just something you can achieve in under an hour. It could be clearing a surface, moving some furniture or even planting something on a windowsill. A thing that's been waiting for you to just do it.

2.Ā Do it because you want to, not because it's on anyone's list

Don't wait for it to come up in a support plan. Choose what gets done and how. Let the decision be yours, and the doing too.

3.Ā  Look at it when it's done

Take a moment to notice the result. Not critically - just to register that you did something for your home, and it looks different for it.

Worth knowing
For family members: if the home has come to feel more like a care facility than a family home, this habit applies to you too. What would make it feel more like yours again?
You don't need anyone's sign-off to find out.
